Marina di Campo is the best known village and tourist location in the municipality of Campo nell’Elba. It hosts in fact the greatest number of tourist accommodations in the municipality guaranteeing many Hotels, Bed & Breakfast, Residences and Apartments where is possible to spend your holidays.
The village lies on the Gulf of Marina di Campo and its historic center has developed around what was once a small fishing port, today partly used as a tourist port, located on the western side of the gulf. On the opposite side there is the location of La Foce well known for the presence of its campsites.
The Village of Marina di Campo has a recent story, in fact in the past it was a swampy area where there were only few warehouses; then between 1600 and 1700, being the raids from the Pirates almost ended, the development of the town of Marina di Campo began around the watchtower of the port which is the most ancient building dating back to the eleventh century together with the small church of San Gaetano located in an inner street near the port.
This small village was born in the neighborhood of the stairs, which was back then a small cluster of houses inhabited by soldiers of the camp and by some fishermen from Naples. The rest of the town was recently built thanks to the advent and development of tourism after the sixties.
In Marina di Campo there is the Town Hall of the Municipality of Campo nell’Elba, as well as postal offices, banks, supermarkets, and local art crafts and products stores. Today the centre of the town is mostly traffic free and around the main roads of Via Roma and Via Marconi which meet at the height of a small bridge, there are the main venues, bars, restaurants and shops. Tourist accommodations are mainly concentrated in Viale degli Etruschi along the waterfront of Marina di Campo.
Very beautiful and romantic especially in the evening is the walk along the sea which leads from Via degli Etruschi to the town centre all along the wonderful waterfront.
Marina di Campo is nice for shopping, for a romantic evening in one of the many restaurants and also for nightlife, thanks to its many venues located in the town centre where is possible to relax and enjoy delicious cocktails.
There are many events planned during the summer season, many of which take place by the beach with open air gigs.
The most ancient part of the village of Marina di Campo is in the area of the marina: we are talking about the stairs area of Marina di Campo and the streets behind the three small quays, where there are many restaurants.
To spend a different day we suggest to visit the Aquarium of Elba which is found in the buildings of the Marina 2 Hotel 500m away from the location La Foce and 1,5km away from Marina di Campo along the road towards Marina di Campo.
Marina di Campo is a well furnished tourist location, maybe the most furnished one in Elba, which attracts many tourists thanks to its large and beautiful sandy beach which stretches along the coast for 1500m. The beach is the true beauty of Marina di Campo, it is loved by families and ideal for kids because of the very low access to the sea in many points given the presence of many sandy shoals. The beach of Marina di Campo is partly provided with bathing establishments which guarantee different services and lifeguards, while in other parts it has free access for tourists.
The main events taking place in Marina di Campo are the traditional celebration of May, the White Night in June, the Sbancomatto at the end of August, the sport event Elbaman in September and the celebration of Saint Gaetano, Patron Saint of Marina di Campo, where after the procession a beautiful firework show is visible from all the gulf.

Beaches close to Marina di Campo
In addition to the main sandy beach of Marina di Campo, the largest of Elba, nearby the village there is the wild beach of Galenzana, located at the basement of the promontory behind the Port of the village, which can be reached through a walking path in 10 minutes. At a close distance some of the most beautiful beaches of Elba situated along the Costa del Sole can be reached within few minutes by car.
