Pinacoteca Foresiana
The Pinacoteca Foresiana covers the second floor in the ancient Caserma de Laugier in Portoferraio. Starting from piazza Cavour, in the old town, you can get there passing by the City Hall (Municipio) and heading Via di Salita Napoleone, which leads to Mulini Villa. Keep going for some meters and you will cross a narrow paved upwards road to the left that leads to a large square. Opposite this square you will find the Cultural Center de Laugier, former Caserma (Barracks) De Laugier.
In 1914 the Elban intellectual Mario Foresi gave to Portoferraio Commun his personal library together with a rich art collection, both kept today in the Pinacoteca (Art Gallery), which is named after him because of the valuable gift and is open to the visitors since 1924.
The Pinacoteca Foresiana presents a rich collection divided into twelve themes and consists of works of art, printed reproductions and paintings made by important artists, like Francesco Morandini (“Poppi”), Plinio Nomellini, Telemaco Signorini, Anonio Ciseri, Llewelyn Lloyd, Franco Cigheri, Niccolò Cannicci and Giovanni Bilivert.
