Some tracks that used to be old muletracks have now been reopened to give mountain bike lovers a wide variety of routes to ride.

You can reach small elba towns located through the mountains by riding, and you can ride down till the seaside villages with evocative seafronts and fully equipped beaches. You will walk by religious and historical buildings and you could ride through old mines surrounded by an almost alien landscape where the red ground rich in iron and minerals will offer you a unique experience riding among several up and downhills. Elba actually seems small to those who don’t know the island, there are actually 14 km of coast, and the surface is of 224 squared kilometers mostly mountainous, where Mount Capanne towering at 1019 s.l.m.

Those who’d rather spend their spare time riding a MTB will find at Elba several surroundings and paths that will satisfy sports need. The routes can be ridden all year round thanks to the mild weather typical of the island and, even when the weather isn’t too good at first it’s often possible to find out weather forecast has been wrong. The unique elban microclimate , thanks to mild breezes keeps weather fronts away and even when they reach the island it makes them go away in few hours so that the sun can keep shining, providing many sunny days all year round.

If you happen to ride during a not so sunny day, you could be enchanted by nature’s changes in several surroundings. The sea changes from green to dark green , almost gloomy, clouds run fast in the gloomy sky touching the mountains that sometimes look almost spooky when covered in fog. Paths get wet and heavy, you could leave traces with your mountain bike wheels, riding through puddles and muddy paths you will get to your destination covered in mud but very satisfied.
