Nicknames

Portoferraio was once the nicknames' homeland. The advent of civilization took away the record on this matter and cancelled a pittoresque aspect of its life.
Nobody was out of nicknames. Maybe because the population was mainly composed by peasants, sailors and fishermen.
The most common were: Favone, Scopino, Grecaletti, Braccino, Baiardo, Galigò, La Biosa, Rottaveggio, Il Frate, Nizze, Bocchino, cav. Genì, il Micco, La Pera, Mago Chiò, Giacchino, Angiolone, Caccarello, Tuga l'imperterrito mangiatore di ciccia Zulù, Barbierino, Pallecchi, La Mardola, Acetino, Chiodo, Troncella, Tizzo nero, Caserio, Pollacco and il Papa: nothing aggressive or offensive, just a kind way to identify and loving each other.
A sort of identity paper for all the people from Portoferraio who once used to love each other while now reign hate and egoism. Just think about the beaches of Bricco with "Pietrino Barbaro" and the headquarters of the same forty francs to Portattera, oh the happy days! In terms of progress it's not bad. Don't you think? On the basis of this situation it can be deducted that the worst has yet to come even though hidden by the progress.
Don't you think friends? We do not praise the past, but at least we think about you with justified nostalgia. We were all so good back then. Maybe the smell of gasoline made us bad? Or maybe easy fortune?
