Donkey Race


The Donkey Race is held annually in the lanes of the old town center of Rio Marina, where eight municipalities compete in this popular race, which consists in a challenge with a jockey riding a donkey. Before the race, in the morning, a jockey is assigned to each municipality by extraction, and later the donkeys are blessed.

After the race (splitted in several batteries), the day of celebration continues with Befana's arrival, who brings sweets to the kids. The festival ends in the evening with the traditional bonfire where the Befana is brought to the stake.
