Hilarious Donkey Race

During the celebrative day of the Hilarious Donkey Race, the town of Marina di Campo is set up with food stands where you can taste local recipes and sweets wisely prepared by the women of the various contrada. The different contrada of Marina di Campo prepare well in advance the expected event,in which the villagers start with wisdom and enthusiasm a parade through the streets of the town before the Hilarious Donkey Race takes on.

The parade is made up of people wearing traditional costumes of Marina di Campo: from majoret to flag bearers. The festival is animated by the music of the marching band with thunderous drums that form the backdrop of this spectacular event.

The several food stands are cared in every detail, but the main theme of the event is the Donkey Race held on the beach, which for the occasion brings together the curious inhabitants of Elba. The Donkey Race of Marina di Campo has two batteries at the start, composed by four donkeys and controlled by the respective jockeys representing their own contrada. At the end of the race, there is only one winning Donkey among the eight contrada of Marina di Campo.

The eight challengers of the municipality of Campo nell'Elba are the district of:  Porto, Macchioni, Santa Lucia, Piano, Ginestra, San Piero, Sant'Ilario and the one of Bonalaccia together with Filetto.
