Paragliding
Paragliding is a sport that asks for a strong passion and it’s for risk lovers because it could be very dangerous and you could get seriously injured if you’re not trained enough. This sport is perfect for freedom lovers.
Elba Island isn’t the perfect place for long distance flights due to its configuration, apart for the Mount Capanne (1019 metres a.s.l.) it’s possible to soaring along with seagulls and have the thrill of flying on breathtaking views and sometimes to fly quite high. Both launching and landing are quite small in size and it’s essential to ask locals for weather forecast and rules to follow on the island.
Curiosity about paragliding
The history of paragliding starts in 1965 , it requires an external force to win the friction and keep the movement going. During the glide in light wind the wing goes down on a sloping plane and that allows it to use part of the weight strength, the external strength to be precise, as propeller strength in equal and opposite direction of the resistance. To enjoy the flight even longer, the pilot has to learn how to take advantage of updrafts else there’s no other options but landing. There are two different types of flying updraft, depending on the origin of the updraft itself. Thermal flying takes advantage of updrafts created by thermals that rise through the air. Soaring flight takes advantage of updrafts generated when wind meets an obstacle properly shaped.
