The Martello and Passannante Tower
The Linguella Tower, also known as Martello Tower hosted for ten year the anarchist Giovanni Passannante within its prisons. On November 17 in 1878 he attacked with a small knife King of Italy Umberto I of Savoia.
Because of this attack, during which he had slightly hit the king, he was locked inside the Linguella Tower, in a 1.40 m high cell with no light and no outhouse and tight to a heavy chain of 18 kilograms.
The sailormen passing nearby the tower were constantly hearing the complaints of the imprisoned Passannante, that's why they started to call it Passannante Tower.
