Santa Chiara
The village of Marciana Marina eagerly awaits every year August 12, when it celebrates the Patronal Festival of Santa Chiara with the Holy Mass and the Pyromusical show.
The Patron Festival of Santa Chiara, is an event visited by thousands of tourists, so it would be preferable to shift with two wheels, as there are few car parks in the village.
Santa Chiara Scifi (Assisi, ca. 1193, 11 August 1253), was an Italian nun, collaborator of St. Francis and foundress of the Poor Clares. She was made saint by Pope Alexander IV in 1255. Later in 1958, on Feb. 17,she was declared also patron saint of television and telecommunications by Pope Pius XII.
During the evening there are lit at sunset hundreds of torches along the promenade Regina Margherita until the end of the port, where it is located the ancient Tower. With the atmosphere illuminated by numerous candles everybody waits the stroke of midnight to watch the show. Meanwhile in the Church of Santa Chiara (dating back to 1776), it is celebrated the Holy Mass, followed by the procession of the saint's statue along the promenade of Marciana Marina.
When the awaited midnight comes, it gives an unrivaled show with wonderful fireworks exploding in the air and sea to the music's rhythm. The pyromusical show, a combination of fireworks and music, is a unique event of its kind and a must-see if you are in Elba on the event day.
