Description of the beach of San Giovanni

The beach of San Giovanni is neither well known nor particularly popular with tourists because of the low and uneven ground. The beach has sand mixed gravel and spreads out in front of the village of San Giovanni, divided by the residential area and a wall. On the beach there are no services, but the nearby suburb offers bars and restaurants.

On the left side of beach some of the water is equipped with buoys and a jetty. Opposite the beach you have a beautiful panoramic view over the harbor and the city of Portoferraio with the fascinating Medici Fortress crowned.

Access to the beach of San Giovanni

It is about 5 km from the center of Portoferraio away and can be reached by the road which leads from Portoferraio to Porto Azzurro. The location is well marked with signs and is located next to the thermal bath of San Giovanni.

To reach the small beach you have to turn left after the traffic lights and follow the road for about 300 m until the sea. Not far away is the beach Antiche Saline, next to the Terme di San Giovanni. In the past, this area was used to reduce sea salt.
