Description of Barbarossa beach

Barbarossa is one of the most beautiful and popular beaches of the Municipality of Porto Azzurro, from which village it is about 2 km far by car and 1 km away by sea. Barbarossa has a sandy shore mixed with multicolored pebbles ranging from red to gray and brown.

The beach has both free access and beach clubs, offering rental services of umbrellas, sunbeds and paddle boats, as well as dressing cabins, shower and lifeguard.During summer a jellyfish protection is assembled to guarantee swimmers' piece of mind. Behind the beach you can find bars and restaurants as well as Campsites, Apartments for rent, Residences and Hotels.

Access to the beach of Barbarossa

You can reach Barbarossa along the road that from Porto Azzurro goes towards Rio nell'Elba and Rio Marina. Less than 1.5 km after a hillock near the cemetery, you need to turn right where a sign indicates the location and the beach of Barbarossa. Continue for about 400 meters until you are on the waterfront, where there are some parking spaces.

If you want to reach the beach on foot from Porto Azzurro, you can do so thanks to a path that runs along the coast, passing under the prison's walls. Walking along this beautiful scenic path you can reach the beach of Barbarossa in about 15 minutes.
