NATIONALPARK OF THE TUSCAN ARCHIPEL

The Elba Island with its territory and the sea that surrounds it are at the heart of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, established in 1996 by the Ministry of Environment. Today is the National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago, the largest water park in Europe. The Tuscan Archipelago National Park comprises 56,766 hectares of sea and 17,887 hectares of land. It includes all the seven islands of the Tuscan Archipelago and several smaller islands and reefs, as the Formiche by Zanca, Ogliera the Scoglio della Triglia, Corbella Iceland, the islands of Gemini, the small island Ortano, Isola Council and Scoglietto Portoferraio, Island of Giglio, Cappa, La Scarpa and La Scola in Pianosa which Peraiola in Capraia, Lo Scoglio d'Africa at Monte Cristo and Palmaiola and beautiful natural scenery and in the channel of Piombino. According to an ancient legend, the goddess Venus in the swim in the clear Mediterranean Sea off her pearl necklace and pearl lost seven of these have arisen then the seven islands. Approximately 80 miles (150 km) separate the island of Gorgona in the north and even the small island of Giannutri (South). In the middle are Capraia, Elba, Pianosa, Montecristo and Giglio.

Each island retains traces of its history, each island is unique, original, with only one common characteristic: the beauty of nature. The Mediterranean Sea has already seen many boats come and go. Of the ships of the Etruscans to the Greek, Roman to the Saracens, from Pisani up to the Spanish. And then the French, from the UK and Germany, always faster and more modern. It now sees every day pleasure boats, ferries and cruise ships. The sea has remained the same, with its tranquility and its sudden storms. The Mediterranean is not only capricious and unpredictable, but also warm and inviting to drive to relax and sport.
