THE TUSCAN ARCHIPEL AND HIS NATIONALPARK

The Tuscan Archipel is a region of great natural and ecological importance and is protected by the same Park 1996 on land and in water. Because the islands remained isolated for a long time, they still remained very natural. The island of Elba is a member of UNESCO. The Tuscan Archipel National Park with an area of 17,694 hectares, covers all areas of the islands (Elba, Giglio, Giannutri, Capraia, Pianosa, Montecristo and Gorgona) and marine areas around the islands. It was created to protect the natural environment and to preserve valuable cultural and scientific riches. The shape of each island and the landscape has been influenced by the geological history. The climate and geological factors that determine the presence of animal and plant species that occur only in the park or in very few other areas of the world.

The conservation of natural landscapes and ecosystems of the islands have been promoted by specific geographical difficulties in linking the islands to the mainland. Visit: The Santuario of Butterflys on Elba Island: in honor of the scientist created by Ornella Casnati a theme park, complete with signs that the species of butterflies exist in this area.
